Jaun Elia was a highly influential Urdu poet, philosopher, and scholar known for his unique, melancholic, and often rebellious style. Born in Amroha, British India, into a scholarly family, he migrated to Pakistan in 1957. He gained immense fame for his distinctive linguistic precision and profound exploration of existential themes, love, and loss, primarily through the ghazal form. He received the President’s Award for Pride of Performance posthumously in 2000.
